RYAN BEAR Foundation

During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the RYAN BEAR Foundation was established to help children who need a little extra help.

Since I was 5 years old, I wanted to find ways to help children. For my birthdays, I asked my mother to donate money to children’s charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and United Way. In 2021, I am donating to Unicef for their global work in helping children.

I was the Creative Director of a children’s virtual world game, Secret Bear World, and it was my initiative to ensure that Secret Bear World integrated charity into its game design.

The Ryan Bear Foundation was created in honour of my mother who has supported me in everything. When I was a young child, my mother’s pet name for me was Ryan Bear. I purchased the domain ryanbear.com when I was 5 years old because I knew that I wanted to find ways to help the world, especially children.

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic made me realize that children need more help than ever. Regular meals, warm clothing and toys. Toys are not just something to play with. Toys bring comfort to children, especially during times of uncertainty. A toy fire truck can create feelings of security and trust as a child grows up. LEGO helps children develop their motor skills and creativity. A teddy bear creates a foundation of love and trust. A child can talk to their teddy bear about everything whereas sometimes a child may not be ready to talk about some stuff with their parents or friends.

During Christmas 2020, I helped to organize Santa Photos and Santa Zoom Visits as in-person visits with Santa were not possible due to social distancing because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents were able to choose the charity that part of their purchase would be donated to, including St. Paul’s Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital.

Christmas 2021 was an important year as the Ryan Bear Foundation sponsored SantaChrismas.com. I was part of the management team which donated its time to find a new shopping mall for Santa and Mrs. Claus so that children could have in-person visits with Santa. We also developed the new website and helped with the marketing promotions. The famous and much loved Santa Chris, who was the showcased feature of Richmond’s Christmas celebrations and winter wonderland displays for over a decade, chose a new home at Aberdeen Centre.

In 2022, the Ryan Bear Foundation has created a very adorable bear built with LEGO bricks and fun to build for your child! Custom designed brick bear specially commissioned by the Ryan Bear Foundation. Designed by Joe Meno, Editor-in-Chief of BrickJournal. This Collector’s Edition of the Ryan Bear Brick Model will be available in limited quantities. All proceeds will be donated to the Ryan Bear Foundation.

In 2022, I am planning a new fundraising project – Paws for St. Paul’s. We will organize events to raise funds for St. Paul’s Hospital.

I feel that it is important to help others, especially children. We all need help in different ways, and helping others has always been important to me.

Please help and lend a paw!
